Recap of the July 24th Small Biz Cares Community Service Day

Small Biz Cares’ Executive Director Shares His Experience After Our Second Community Service Day

When we launched Small Biz Cares our Founding Board team believed that one of the main ways we can all contribute to the common good is by donating our time to volunteer.

But as small business owners and professionals, time is at a premium. We wear many hats, manage teams and drive sales. As a result, many of us are working long hours to grow our businesses and achieve our dreams.

Who has time for volunteering?

On July 24th, over 60 business owners and professionals joined together to give back to five local nonprofits. Volunteers split up in teams to work with the Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Homeless Families Foundation, LifeCare Alliance, and Franklinton Farms.

Through the efforts of our volunteers, we were able to contribute over 180 hours of support in an afternoon.  Whether it was putting kits together for families in need, getting our hand dirty beautifying Franklinton, or supporting critical programs that help those in need, Small Biz Cares volunteers made a difference.

After the volunteering, we gathered at Land Grant Brewing in Franklinton to kick back, network and share our experiences.

The awesome thing about Small Biz Cares Community Service Day is that we are not just doing good. Through our programs, we are connecting with other like-minded professionals, which is opening up new possibilities for business and friendship. Our second Community Service Day saw a 33% increase in participation.  More similar events to come in addition to programs that reinforce the “do well by doing good” philosophy.

If you aren’t a member of Small Biz Cares, please reach out to me at nevin.bansal@smallbizcares.org. Our goal is to collaborate with community-minded businesses to tell an awesome story of impact. Membership is less than $21 per month. 100% of the base membership contribution goes to support our Scholarship Fund which currently supports students at Columbus State as well as the Women’s Small Business Accelerator.

We have some awesome initiatives planned. We are excited to get more businesses involved!

Thank you to everyone who showed support for the second #smallbizcares Community Service Day!
